Information at the Tactical Edge
Cofounding factors that hinder the achieving of a common situational understanding between members of a task group1:
- Rapidly changing, lean, and poor-quality data
- Incomplete information
- Disparity between the currency and consistency of the information held by each asset. (My thought: Blockchain can be used to address this disparity. However, I must consider how bad the network can be)
In order to achieve mission success inthe face of these challenges, there is a demand for a type of information superiority in the context of:
- Available information
- Goal of the mission
- Structure of the task group, including roles and capabilities
These information must be provided to the right place at the right time.
Two forms of information in the combat environment:
- Combat Information: Near real-time component
- Reference Information: Information libraries supporting an a-priori awareness of the environment (a.k.a., reference information, mission data), containing:
- Details regarding entities expected within the environment. This information is used to establish the identity of entities detected in the environment.
- Physical characteristics of the entity (colour, length, features, etc. )
- Description of their typical behaviour
- Description of the surrounding environment
- Current and predicted enviornmental conditions
- Decision support aids in terms of how own platforms should respond to a situation or scenario
- Details regarding entities expected within the environment. This information is used to establish the identity of entities detected in the environment.
