How to distribute time

This article contains my approach to use my week and balance my responsibilities. This plan has been produced and in use since 05/09/2020.

My time slots

I have four types of time slots that I can assign projects to as follows:

  • My nine-to-five work session: this time is balanced between research, teaching, and administrative job. On average, I should have around 40 hours a week in this time slot.
  • Early morning: I have between 30 minutes to 1 hour every morning to work on a project that I want. On average, I should have around 5 to 6 hours a week in this time slot.
  • At night: After work, I have around 1 hours. On average, I should have around 3 to 4 hours a week in this time slot.
  • Weekends: I have around 5 to 6 hours, spanning across two days.

In overall, I would have around 50 to 55 hours a week to spend on any endeavours that I want to pursue in life. That is not a small number. Use it wisely.

How I will assign projects to time slots?

  • Every week, I can work on one to two main projects in my main work hours. One project is preferrable.
  • Every week, I can work on one project that happens at a lower priority.
  • Every week, I can work on one pet project, which is like a bet for further that I can lead by myself.

How will I maintain my time schedule?

The priority and project assignment will be assessed and updated every week during the weekly reflection and planning session.
