Habits at Work

Aspirations

I want to do deep work consistently, advancing my writing and development work everyday, without compromising the shallow work too much. I don't want to waste my time in the work hours, so that I can have more time to do things that I want after the office hours.

Recipes

  • After I put my briefcase down, I will go and make a cup of coffee and fill up my water, and feel good that I have started the day.
  • After returning the coffee, I will bring my phone to somewhere quiet to do my own morning scrum.
  • After returning from the scrum, I will turn on the computer, enable distraction blocker, and lock my phone away in my drawer, and I will feel good that I have set a good foundation to keep myself focused and prevent wasting time.
  • After enabling distraction stopper, I will open the task board of projects under my supervision and do the morning scrum online, and I will feel good that I have spent effort on keeping the projects in line.
  • After finishing my morning scrum sessions, I will open the project that I will work in the day and write down a task on a sticky note and stick it on my computer, and I will feel good that I am staged to make progress.
  • After writing down my task, I will set a timer for 90 minutes and start working, and I will feel good that I am on the way to have a great and productive day full of deep work.

Recipes for the afternoon

  • After heating up my food, I will pack my food away and leave the kitchen, then I will feel good that I have set the stage for having a meaningful and refreshing afternoon.
